Munster Junior Camogie Finals - The Ard Scoil Team

Munster Finals in Camogie

On the 18th of January, Ard Scoil Junior Camogie team headed off to Mahon to play Millstreet Secondary School in the Munster Under 16 and a Half Final. The team bus along with supporters arrived in Mahon at 1:30pm. The match started at half 2 and straight away we were off to a good start with an early point from Kate McGarth. But Millstreet were quick to retaliate with two points, one after the other. Aisling Baumann buried the ball in the bakck of the net to bring the score to 1-1 to 0-2 to Ard Scoil.

During this first half we saw a lovely goal, this time from Kate McGrath. But, Millstreet again fought back with a goal and a point which left the score 2-1 to 1-3 at half time.

In the second half we saw 3 outstanding points from Aisling Baumann and another phenomenal point from Ciara Hurley. Within the space of 30 minutes, Millstreet managed to work themselves back into the game with 5 points.

Luckily for Millstreet, the game was tied and went to extra time with a score of 2-5 to 1-8. In the first half of extra time Millstreet dominated with 2 goals and 2 points. Unfortunately, Ard Scoil had no score in that half. After an ecouraging talk from Fiona Rochford and Emillie Pickering, the Ard Scoil went into the second half of extra and played an outstanding 10 minutes of Camogie. The team displayed great skill and determination. This worked in their favour as Millstreet got no score. Unfortunately, Millstreet came out on top with a 2-2 win over the Ard Scoil Girls.

It was a battle right up to the end and an excellent day of sport.

T.Y. News.

On Tuesday, January 14th, the transition year students of Ard Scoil na nDeise welcomed two guests for the day. Niamh Cronin and Karen McCarthy are two practicing barristers who visited us to talk about their work in the hope that by the end of the day we would have a better understanding of the courts system.

For the first three classes, the barristers gave separate talks to each class on the basics of the court system and did their best to answer our many questions. After break, both classes joined up to watch a DVD which showed a court in action.

After lunch we went back to our classes and were allotted roles to play in an imaginary court case involving a murder trial. We all really enjoyed this part and it was certainly the highlight of the day.

All in all everyone agreed this was a pretty successful day. We had a good time and a pleasant change from our normal classes and we learned a lot as a bonus!
