Leaving Cert. Graduation Mass

The Leaving Cert of 2013 celebrated their graduation Mass earlier than usual this year with Fr. Flor O’Callaghan and Fr. John Harris.  As  always, it was a moving event for the girls, their parents and the entire school community.

Following the opening hymn, “This Little Light of Mine,” Aisling Farrell greeted everyone with words of welcome.

The Ceremony of Light was conducted by Aileen Gallagher, 6th year student; Year Head Mrs. O’Driscoll; Michael Sheehan, Parents’ Council; Jenny Maye Twomey and Kayla McCarey, 1st year students. After the Penitential Rite, Hannah O’Connell spoke the first reading from the Book of Ecclesiastes.

The Responsorial Psalm, “I Have Carried You on Eagles’ Wings” was sung by Maeve Brockie, Dayna Lawlor and Hayley Roe. Becky Healy gave the second reading, A Letter from the first letter of St Paul to the Corinthians. Following the reading of the Gospel, the Prayers of the Faithful were lead by Maeve Brockie,Jenny |Hurley, Katie Leahy and Laura Sheehan in English with Sinead Hogan in Irish, Tabitha Alexander in German and Marta Debrowska in Polish.

Una McGrath introduced members of the Offertory Procession; Lorraine brought a textbook representing all the years of hard work in the Ard Scoil; Hayley brought a folder of photos of some of their greatest memories over the last years; Aileen brought a P.E. jersey denoting all the sporting achievements of the class; Shannon brought a model of a heat from the Biology Lab, hoping for the best possible health for all in the future; Ciara brought shoes to suggest the new steps they will take as they enter a new stage of their lives; Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. Power brought the bread and wine to be transformed into the body and blood of |Our Lord Jesus Christ.

During the Communion, the Choir and the Ave Maria and Aisling Hayes played a beautiful instrumental piece on the harp.

Mrs. Hughes addressed the audience and thanked Fr. Flor, Fr. John and the religion teachers, Ms. Cotter, Ms. O’Shea and Mrs. Lucey for their preparation of the Mass. She also thanked Mrs. Lucey and her wonderful singers and musicians for their excellent performances

For the 6th year blessing we had personal reflections from Aine Power, Aisling Hayes, Frances Whelan, Laura Duggan,Niamh O’Shea and and Emma Nugent.

The class of 2013 returned to the school for refreshments with their families and staff; thanks once again to the Parents’ Council for the excellent spread. As the girls head into their last weeks of school and study, we wish them all the very best in their exams.
