Driving Lessons

On Friday, April 12th, a group of T.Y. students had a lovely day of learning how to drive, learning the dangers of the road and to recognise road signs. Throughout the course of the  day, the students got to take the theory tests, do a project on buying a car and insuring it; we also watched a film about road safety and wore beer goggles. We actually took the wheel of a car and drove it ! We learned how to change and replace a wheel and how to use jump leads. The entire T.Y. group enjoyed this experience extremely and now can’t wait to drive again!

Cookery Competition

Following earlier qualifying rounds, this year’s T.Y. students recently had the final of their cookery competition. The aromas wafting from the cookery kitchen tempted all who passed by. The entries were varied but all very delicious and Ms. Fox and Mrs. Colette Power found it very difficult to choose the eventual winners.

First place went to Niamh Whyte and Sophie Hodnett who cooked Thai Prawn Curry followed by Raspberry Crepes.

In second place were Edel Power and Eimear Hurley with their tasty pizza and Bakewell tart.

In third place came Elizabeth McCarthy and Chloe Murray with their wonderful Hake Goujons with potato wedges followed by Apple Crumble.

Well done to all of Ms. Fox’s students, it was good to see so many talented cooks in action.

Cairde Girls

The Cairde Girls are a group of 5th year students in the Ard Scoil who help the new first years settle into and get to know the school. They also organise events such as concerts and quizzes throughout the year. The T.Y. students who applied for next year’s group went on a training day to Cork on Monday the 8th, one of two sessions we will need to do for when we go back to school in September.

We had been to the Centre in Cork before when we went there for a retreat and already knew some of the people there so we had a good idea of what we’d be doing. There was a much bigger group there too from Clonmel but after we got over any initial awkwardness, we got on well – which was good considering the day was mainly about teamwork and we all had to work together to build mini skyscrapers, which didn’t go too badly once they stopped falling over!

We went on to do similar exercises as well as some meditation which was very welcome as most of us were wrecked. It was a fun day and very worthwhile, as it taught  us some games that might come in handy with the first years!

Busy Exam Time

These are very busy weeks for our exam classes as they do practical and oral exams. This week the 3rd years had their practical exams in Home Economics while the Leaving Cets had their Oral Irish exam. There was much trepidation at the beginning of the week but at the end there were lots of smiling faces. This week it is the turn of music students and Oral exams in French and German. Also the Art students are preparing for their upcoming practical exams. Good Luck girls and Bon Courage!

Bingo

Don’t forget to support the school by coming to the Bingo sessions every Monday night. If it isn’t won this week there will be an enormous jackpot next week! So, have fun, support the school and maybe win a little cash!
