"Reaching our Potential with Respect, Care and Friendship"

First Year Parents Welcomed & Blue and White Day

27th September 2010

First Years and their Parents Formally Welcomed in Ard Scoil.

On Tuesday evening last, our first years were officially extended a cead mile failte to our school at the now traditional evening of welcome for the girls and their parents. As well as informative talks by members of staff and parent representatives, the evening included a service of welcome conducted by our Junior School Chaplain, Fr. Paul Waldron, assisted by the Cairde Girls, staff members and parents. Music was provided by the first years themselves under the direction of Mrs Lucey.

The very enjoyable evening concluded with refreshments provided by members of the Parents’ Council. Hopefully the Evening of welcome will be the first of many happy occasions enjoyed by our first years and their parents during their years as part of the Ard Scoil community.

First Year Students Plant a Shrub

Blue and White Day.

Every year the Students’ Council chooses charities to support . Each class votes and their representative brings their choice to the Council. On Friday, Mrs. Ashe organised a Blue and White Day in support of the Waterford Intermediate Ladies Football team.

Students were allowed to support their team by dressing in blue and white, as indeed did the staff!. A fee of €2.00 was a collected from each participant and over €600 was gathered.

We wished to support the team as Leaving Cert student Roisin Tobin joined past pupils Mary Foley (captain), Aoife McGovern and Grainne Enright in their All Ireland Final against Donegal.

Students Participating in Blue & White Day

Alas, it was not to be a victory for the Deise ladies but congratulations to the team for an exciting match and…better luck next year.

Also in action in Croke Park on Sunday were first year pupils Mary O’Leary and Ciara Hurley who played in the Primary game at half time.

Best wishes to the Waterford Junior Camogie team in their replay match next weekend.
Blue and White Day was very successful and enjoyable and we thank everyone who contributed.

We must commend our students for their magnificent  work for charity every year when they raise funds for many worthy causes.
