September 2009 - Junior Cert Results

Junior Cert Results.

Well done to our Junior Cert students who achieved such excellent results in their exams. The tension was palpable in the school on Wednesday morning as they awaited the call to collect the brown envelope. Finally the time arrived and they were free to go and celebrate with their families.

School Mass.

On Friday, to celebrate the wonderful results of our Junior and Leaving Cert students and to mark the beginning of the new school year, the students, staff, the Mercy Sisters, members of the Board of Management and the Parents’ Council went to the Friary Church to join our chaplain, Fr. Flor O’Callaghan in his celebration of the Mass.

Our new First Years sang the opening hymn, “Bind us together Lord” as the Cairde girls walked in a candlelight procession to the altar. Following words of welcome from Dearbhla Coffey, Fr. Flor lead us in the opening prayer.

Richael Hayes spoke the first Reading and this was followed by the Responsorial Psalm, sung by Rebecca Hodnett and Zoe Scanlon who were accompanied by Dearbhla Whelan.

After the second Reading by Charlotte Govier, the choir lead the congregation in the Alleluia.

Fr. Flor read the Gospel and in his homily welcomed everyone, especially the new students. As usual his words were relevant and attuned to the students of the different years as they begin their studies.

The Prayers of the Faithful were read by Roisin Claffey, Ellen Power, Kate Hynes, Zoe Crotty, Grace O’Sullivan and Gina Gleeson.

The Offertory commentary was read by Patricia Regan as Laura, Kristi, Roisin, Sheridan, Mrs Hughes and Mrs Power carried gifts to the altar.

Ag Chriost anSiol was performed by Clara Mannion, Muireann O’Brien, Amy Flaherty and Anna Landers.

The Acclamation, “he is Lord” and the Communion Hymns, “Look at the World” and “A Mhuire Mhathair” were sung by the choir who were accompanied by the talented musicians. The Communion Reflection was read by Rebecca Yellop.

We then had the commissioning of the Cairde Girls; these |Senior Girls who give up so much of their time, especially to help the new First Years received their pins and made their pledge

Principal, Mrs. Hughes then addressed the congregation; she welcomed especially the new students in the different classes and also new colleague Mrs. Kimberly Gleeson. She thanked the Religion teachers, MS Cotter, Ms O’Shea and Mrs Lucey for their work in preparing the Mass and Mrs Lucey again as music Teacher for the superb singing and music. She also thanked Fr Flor and again congratulated Leaving and Junior Certs for their wonderful results and wished all the students the very best for the coming year. She also thanked Leaving Cert pupils, Nancy, Tricia and Colleen for preparing the Mass booklet.

After the closing prayer, the choir lead us all in singing the Recessional Hymn, This Little Light of Mine.

Thanks also to the Ministers of the Eucharist, Mrs Dowdall, Mrs. O’Donovan and Mrs. Stack.

All Ireland Junior Camogie final.

Congratulations to Past pupils Aine Breathnach, Shona Curran and Deirdre Fahey who were members of the Waterford Panel to contest the All Ireland Junior Final on Sunday. Commiserations on their defeat to Offaly and I’m sure they’ll be back next year! Well done to the Waterford girls for a wonderful season of camogie!
