Lourdes Group Coffee Morning

On Friday morning the fifth year Lourdes group organised a tea/coffee morning for teachers past and present in one of the cookery rooms. The tables were beautifully set up with flowers and colourful napkins and a huge array of cakes was on display. It was a very pleasant occasion to sit and chat over the delicious treats efficiently served by the girls. Well done girls and we are delighted to hear that you raised a good sum to fundraise the trip to Lourdes.

Pink Day

http://www.ardscoildungarvan.com/news/2012/12-10-29-pink-3.jpg

As October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, our Year Head, Mrs. O’Driscoll, with the help of Mrs. O’Sullivan, decided it would be a good idea to raise awareness of this within the school. This has become an annual event in the schoo,l but this year, Mrs. O’Driscoll added the idea of a Pink Picnic! Each Year Head brought their classes to the picnic at a suitable time. We decided the picnic would take place in the senior hall which was decorated in pink. Each student brought their own picnic to the hall and shared it with their friends. Each student donated € 2 and received a pink ribbon.

We raised over €500 for the West Waterford Hospice. Everybody had a wonderful day while raising funds for this very worthy charity.

The Result - A Donation to Cancer Treatment

"This October 2012, we managed to raise €620. Dr. Gordon Watson visited the school on Friday 30th of November so we could present him with the cheque. The money is going towards a new programme in Waterford that helps men and women diagnosed with cancer with any effects of their illness such as depression and low self-esteem.

Dr. Watson gave us a very informative talk on detecting breast cancer and other potential problems. We’re all very proud to have been able to help with this as it’s a very important programme."
